About me.

Hello, I’m Onette Zabinski.

I am a California public school teacher with over a decade of experience working in schools. Since I started teaching in 2015, I have been teaching long-term English learners for 9th grade English. I have also taught mainstream English classes and I currently teach AVID (Advancement via Independent Determination) to prepare first-generation students to gain the skills they’ll need to apply to 4-year colleges by their senior year.

I was born and raised in Mexico and was an EL student in my elementary school years. My own experience as an English learner impacted my view of education and the major power that literacy has. I’m excited to share my small take-aways with teachers and other interested parties! I learn from my students and practice every day, and I hope that some of my “a-ha moments” help uncover some similar ones for you too.
